ICYMI: Turnaround School Specialist Jocelyn Howard Talks About The Importance Of Funding Food Programs With WCPT 820

On Friday, Michigan Families for Fair Care Executive Director Steve Lawson and Turnaround School Specialist Jocelyn Howard sat down with Richard Chew from WCPT 820 to talk about one of the most important issues facing students in our district: access to nutrition assistance. With parts of the 2017 GOP Tax Law expiring next year, Howard spoke with Chew about the upcoming fight for tax fairness on behalf of lower-income Michiganders who just want to see the wealthy pay their fair share and how that money can be better allocated to meet the needs of Michiganders.

This interview underscores the importance of Americans getting a fair deal after the 2017 GOP Tax Law provisions, which mainly benefited the ultra-wealthy, expire in 2025. Check out an excerpt here:

JOCELYN HOWARD: “A lot of children in the urban areas, they have behavioral problems, and their behavior is not directly connected to behavioral symptoms. It’s due to hunger, coming to school hungry every morning. [...] And we found out that Congressman James was in a position of not supporting nutrition assistance for our inner city children in our city and our children in our area. And I believe that's a national issue.” [53:03]
