The Price Is Wrong: President Trump Stop Raising Costs
Michigan Families for Fair Care Executive Director Steve Lawson and local business owner Alex Bronson issued the following statements in response to President Trump’s decision to raise costs for Michiganders:
Macomb County Small Business Owner, Alex Bronson
“Any economic policy that increases costs towards small businesses and consumers does not take into account the reality of what it means to be a member of the working class. Real people are going to be hurt. As a carpenter, I have to raise my rates to stay afloat because the cost of supplies is going up. Some businesses may not be able to absorb that hit. We have tried telling our elected officials in Congress, but they don’t want to hear about it from us. This country should not be making decisions based on what benefits billionaires when it is being bankrolled by small shops like mine all across the country. ”
Michigan Families for Fair Care Executive Director Steve Lawson
“With this new plan in place, Michiganders will suffer under Republicans’ plans to clear the way for a billionaire tax cut policy that is estimated to cost more than $2 trillion. We at Michigan Families for Fair Care, have talked to local business owners on the ground here in Michigan, and the anxiety is palpable. Even non-business owners will be terribly impacted by this devastating plan that is not in their best interest. We urge everyone to reach out and tell Congressman James and Congressman Barrett to stop voting in favor of this disastrous tariff agenda and oppose any plans that raise costs for the working class.”
Michiganders are preparing for the financial toll tariffs and the GOP Tax Plan are likely to have, including but not limited to:
Increased costs for car maintenance.
High gas prices.
Unaffordable housing and increased lumber costs.
Higher prices on the $28 billion worth of goods Michigan receives from Canada.
Additional budget cuts to vital programs like Medicaid and SNAP are being considered.
