‘Actions Not Ads’: Michigan Families for Fair Care Statement On New Conservative Ads Protecting John James

“Congressman John James cannot support policies that harm his constituents then be bailed out by conservative organizations with deep pockets.”

MACOMB, Michigan— Today, the American Action Network, a conservative group, began running ads supporting Congressman John James this election cycle. The ad claims Rep. James helped lower costs and fight back against big government red tape while looking out for his constituents.

Unfortunately, Rep. John James’s track record in Congress tells a different story. Over the past year, Congressman James has:

  • Voted for policies that would have raised costs and cut vital resources used by many of his constituents.

  • Voted to make it harder for seniors and people with disabilities to access the Medicare and Social Security benefits they earned.

  • Is a member of the Republican Study Committee, an extreme group in Congress that is focused on cutting Medicare, Social Security, and increasing drug costs for Medicare recipients.

Michigan Families for Fair Care has also run its ads as part of a twelve-week, seven-figure paid media ad campaign meant to educate Michiganders on the Congressional proposals that risk making life harder for families that are already struggling to afford the cost of essential needs.

The ads feature the stories of Michiganders and how these policies, supported by John James, impact their everyday life.

Steve Lawson, Michigan Families for Fair Care Executive Director. “Congressman John James cannot support policies that harm his constituents then be bailed out by conservative organizations with deep pockets. He has voted for the Default on America Act, which threatened to raise the cost of health care, groceries, and housing for Michiganders. When the time came to explain his decisions, Rep. James failed to show his face to his constituents in-person. If Rep. James wants constituents to believe that he is really looking out for them, he needs to show us with his actions not have someone tell us through their ads.”
