Congressmen John James And Tom Barrett Say Nothing As Trump Administration Risks The Country’s Health
This week, the Trump administration cancelled over $12 billion in federal grants from the Health and Human Services Department in states across the country that were being used to combat diseases, provide addiction treatment, and fund mental health services. Michigan alone was slated to receive $109 million over the next three years.
Michigan Families for Fair Care Executive Director, Steve Lawson issued the following statement:
“Republicans in Congress learned absolutely no lessons from the first Trump term because instead of providing funding to combat infectious diseases and addiction, they have chosen to gut the programs instead. Meanwhile, Representatives John James and Tom Barrett are choosing to stay quiet on the topic, instead choosing to rubber stamp all of this administration’s decisions as it looks for more ways to fund its plans for tax breaks for billionaires. You can’t give the country’s wealth to the top 1%, decimate social and health care programs and still claim to be the party of the working class. Congressman James and Barrett, we urge you to condemn these cancellations and for once think about the people you’re representing.”
