Congressmen Tom Barrett And John James Must Tell Billionaires To Stay Away From Our Social Security
This month, the Trump administration has stepped up its attacks against Social Security. Following the March 11th continuing resolution (CR) vote, backed by House Republicans, like Rep. Tom Barrett and Rep. John James, it is clear that nothing will rein in their billionaire-backed plan to cut vital services for everyday American citizens for the sake of tax cuts. Now, with over 2.3 million beneficiaries in Michigan, Social Security Administration cuts are coming next. Meanwhile, this administration is out-of-touch with the impact these cuts would have on the working class and they are saying it out loud.
Axios: “Seniors won't complain if they miss a Social Security check, Lutnick says”
“Let's say Social Security didn't send out their checks this month. My mother-in-law, who's 94, she wouldn't call and complain," Lutnick — a billionaire former Wall Street CEO — told the billionaire "All In" podcast host Chamath Palihapitiya.”
Massive cuts to the Social Security program would have disastrous consequences, some of which we are witnessing already.
Washington Post: “Long Waits, Waves Of Calls, Website Crashes: Social Security Is Breaking Down”
“The Social Security Administration website crashed four times in 10 days this month because the servers were overloaded, blocking millions of retirees and disabled Americans from logging in to their online accounts.”
“What’s going on is the destruction of the agency from the inside out, and it’s accelerating,” Sen. Angus King (I-Maine) said in an interview.
Michigan Families for Fair Cair storyteller Rebecca Zainos:
“The billionaires surrounding this presidential administration are purposefully ignoring the day-to-day struggles Michiganders go through to afford necessities, but that isn’t stopping them from ripping away crucial services from us. We are talking about the elderly being unable to feed themselves or afford shelter so that the ultra-wealthy can receive a tax cut. It is unbelievable that people who have no experience with the hardships and tribulations of the working class get to dictate what is and isn’t helping. The people of this country deserve better and we’ll make sure that our voices are heard. We urge Representatives John James and Tom Barrett to explain these Social Security cuts to their constituents, millions of people are looking for answers.”
