ICYMI: Congressman Tom Barrett Will Slash First And Ask Questions Later

In a recent interview with WLNS-6 Congressman Tom Barrett made the following statement in his response to cutting Medicaid:

  • BARRETT: “There’s been a lot of evolution of the program over time that hasn’t really kept up with the accountability of those that may have been put on Medicaid in an inappropriate fashion...”

“Representative Tom Barrett would rather bend over backwards to justify slashing Medicaid funds for Michiganders than face the reality that Medicaid is doing its job of providing people with accessible health care,” said Steve Lawson, Executive Director of Michigan Families for Fair Care. “Michigan Families for Fair Care and other local advocates have hosted several town halls, and he still refuses to meet with his constituents who are urging him to protect these crucial programs. Instead, he would rather vote to destroy access to health care for the sake of tax breaks for billionaires. Congressman Barrett, your constituents have been eagerly waiting to speak to you, are you going to be willing to listen?”

Cutting Medicaid in Michigan’s 7th congressional district would

  • Risk the health care of over 131,000 Michiganders

  • Impact the coverage of over 40,000 minors

  • Put over 15,000 elderly residents in peril
