NEW AD: Local Business Owner Speaks on the High Costs of Health Care
“The increased cost of health care raises the cost of everything.”
MACOMB, Michigan— Today, Michigan Families for Fair Care launched its second ad as a part of its twelve-week, seven-figure paid media ad campaign to educate Michiganders how Congressional proposals could make life harder for families that are already struggling to afford the cost of essential health care needs.
The ad, “Can’t Afford It” features Alex, a carpenter from Mount Clemens, who owns a construction business and knows what it’s like to struggle to afford health insurance.
Alex, Mount Clemens Resident
“As a small business owner, health insurance costs are one of the biggest challenges to starting and growing a business. It’s hard enough as it already is to keep a business running, so when there’s legislation out there that would make health care more expensive and our Congressman John James voted for it, I feel the need to speak out and let others know.”
Steve Lawson, Executive Director of Michigan Families for Fair Care
“The country has made an amazing recovery in the last few years from the devastating impacts of the pandemic, which was especially felt by small business owners like Alex. We’ve still got a long way to go in reducing health care costs, so it’s crucial that people in the district are aware of legislation that would reverse much of the progress that’s been made.”

“I’m a carpenter and I run a construction business right here in Michigan.
We work hard here.
I can’t imagine myself doing anything else.
Business is hard right now.
People are trying to save their money, and that includes the cost of health care.
So when I found out there was a bill that could raise the cost of health care by cutting programs and services I was pretty concerned.
And John James voted for this bill.
The increased cost of health care raises the cost of everything.
It affects the small business owners, it's affecting the employees.
Everybody in the economy is affected by it.
Because none of us can afford higher health care costs right now.”
