Congressman Barrett, The Call Is Coming From Inside The House

Last night, over 200 constituents from all over Michigan’s 7th Congressional District gathered for a town hall, hoping to talk to Representative Tom Barrett about the obstacles facing their district. Right now, Michiganders are worried about the state of our nation, and we need to hear from Rep. Barrett directly about the Republican plan to gut Medicaid and give tax breaks to billionaires. Currently, over 2.5 million Michiganders rely on Medicaid for access to affordable health care services,131,000 of whom are in Representative Barrett’s district alone. Rep. Barrett recently voted to lay the foundation for nearly a trillion dollars worth of cuts to the vital service. An in-person town hall is the least he could do to address his constituents’ worries.

The GOP Tax Scam is expected to cost the country over $4 trillion in the next decade, while causing irreparable damage to families in Michigan. This town hall was for Rep. Barrett to give answers to Michigan families, veterans, and seniors worried about the future. Just because he refuses to take our questions, does not mean we will be silent.

“Tonight is bittersweet. Hundreds of Lansing residents mobilized to make their voices heard, but Rep. Tom Barrett has chosen to ignore our invitation for a much-needed in-person town hall. It is not right to defend tariffs that are increasing costs on fixed income households like mine, and not face some kind of accountability. People are worried, and we want to be represented by someone who won’t cut affordable health care to provide tax breaks for billionaires. The least Rep. Tom Barrett could do for the people of his district is to show up and learn more before his next round of votes.”
