House Avoids Partial Government Shutdown by Passing First Appropriations Bills

With Two Weeks Left to Finish the Job, Will John James Vote Again to Slash Programs His Constituents Depend On?

MACOMB, Michigan- After six months of dysfunction and delay brought on by House Republicans, the House passed their first six appropriations bills for the 2024 fiscal year. Rep. John James voted in favor of the bills. Congress now has until March 22nd to pass the remaining appropriations bills and fully fund the government for the remainder of this fiscal year.

Steve Lawson, Executive Director of Michigan Families for Fair Care

“We are once again calling on John James to commit to a budget that does not cut critical services that Michiganders depend on. He previously voted for a disastrous budget that would have cut funding for the Social Security Administration, Meals on Wheels, and federal education funding. Millions of Michiganders use these programs and count on them. We ask that Rep. James protect critical programs and support a no-cuts budget.”
