ICYMI: Turnaround School Specialist Jocelyn Howard Flies To DC To Urge Congressional Leaders to Oppose Medicaid Cuts
On Tuesday, Michigan Families for Fair Care, Turnaround School Specialist Jocelyn Howard, and members from Mainstreet Alliance sat down with Michigan’s congressional leaders to talk about the Republican plan to slash health care spending and food programs for Michigan families.
As a turnaround school specialist, Jocelyn Howard has seen firsthand what Michigan students have to go through when they do not have their needs met. Nearly one million Michigan children are enrolled in Medicaid, which could face nearly $880 billion in cuts if Republicans choose to make way for the Trump administration’s tax cuts for the wealthy. Unfortunately, despite being in the lobby of his office with an appointment scheduled in advance, Congressman John James still refused to meet with us and instead prioritized voting for the budget resolution without hearing from his constituents.
Jocelyn Howard, Warren Resident and Turnaround School Specialist:
“We came to Washington, DC to remind our elected leaders in Congress that it does not matter what party you serve, you are here to improve the lives of your constituents, not serve special interests. Any plan that cuts health care for children, makes it harder for families to put food on the table, and shuts down rural hospitals for the sake of making billionaires more wealthy should be dead on arrival. We urge our congressional leaders to listen to their constituents and not allow the system to continue to be rigged against us.”
