Michigan Families for Fair Care Condemns Congressmen John James And Tom Barrett Vote To Prioritize The Ultra-Wealthy

Michigan Families for Fair Care Executive Director Steve Lawson issued this statement following Congressmen John James and Tom Barrett’s vote in favor of the House budget resolution:

“Yesterday, House Republican Representatives John James and Tom Barrett voted to cosign the Trump agenda which puts the health care of nearly three million Michiganders at risk. Now it will be up to the House Energy and Commerce Committee, which Rep. James is a member of, to justify their plan to cut $880 billion from Medicaid for the sake of tax cuts for the ultra-wealthy.

Medicaid is a lifeline for families across the country, it finances almost half of all births in the US, allows rural hospitals in Michigan to keep their doors open, and allows one in five adults in the U.S. to have reliable health coverage. Congressmen James and Barrett chose to ignore their constituents and instead prioritized the needs of the ultra-wealthy. Michiganders will not forget who John James and Tom Barrett are in Congress to serve, because it obviously isn’t Michigan’s families.”
