Michigan Families for Fair Care Debuts Mobile Billboard at Detroit Auto-Show

his weekend, Michigan Families for Fair Care rolled into the Detroit Auto Show with a mobile billboard condemning Trump’s plan to implement tariffs to fund his new tax breaks for the rich, which would mean higher costs for Michigan drivers.

Michigan Families for Fair Care Director, Steve Lawson:

“The Detroit Auto Show highlights the best the auto industry has to offer to consumers, with the expectation that people are able to afford these cars to get to work and live their lives. Implementing tariffs that make cars and car parts more expensive will hurt the industry and auto-owners alike. Buying and owning a car should not be a luxury. People want lower costs and a lower cost of living, but instead, they are being told to foot the bill for more Trump tax cuts. Rep. John James has to answer for this: does he support increasing costs for Michiganders so that he can get a tax break?”

Michigan has over 7.2 million licensed drivers, and over half a million purchase a vehicle each year. Transportation is essential as millions of workers commute to work daily, and a rise in car part expenses would take money out of the pockets of Michiganders trying to feed their families.

Just like in 2017, President-elect Donald Trump is making one thing his priority – tax cuts for the wealthy. To get his bill passed, Trump will rely on support from representatives in Congress that know how to cater to the ultra-wealthy, representatives like John James, who previously voted to protect the rich from paying their fair share  and co-sponsored a bill that would give major tax breaks to wealthy owners of large businesses.

Rep. James is also part of the Republican Study Committee, which has proposed making the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act permanent, which would add trillions to our nation’s deficit.
